Newton, North Carolina, is a community of about 14,000 citizens situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, northwest of Charlotte. Newton is the county seat of Catawba County. Early development of the community was centered around the county courthouse that was built in 1843. The court square bustled with activity as storefronts appeared near the courthouse.
